Thank you

I posted a few weeks back under the subject "Diagnosis ....or not". I am 63 and my local GP had been totally dismissive of my request for assessment/diagnosis of Asperger Syndrome.

Thanks to the encouragement and helpful advice of Intenseworld I wrote to my local NHS Authority complaining about the treatment I had received from my GP.  Today I received a letter back confirming an appointment (in 2 weeks time) with a consultant psychiatrist.

I have no expectations - the consultant may conclude that I am too old to be diagnosed.  But I am so relieved to find that I have finally been taken seriously.

Thank you Intenseworld.

  • You are so welcome, and I am absolutely delighted you have got this result! Laughing

Well done, for sticking with it.  I am so proud of you.

Is it a general psychiatric appointment or a psychiatrist who can assess for ASC, as it is important that it is and that he is under no illusions as to what he is assessing for?

Wow about how quickly too!  The waiting list is about a year long in my area.

They cannot tell you that you are too old.  If you are autistic, it's lifelong and you are legally entitled to a diagnosis.  Don't let them fob you off.  Chat on the forum here about how to prepare for your appointment if you like.  Good luck.
