Can you study History more generally to keep it related but reserve your special interest for when you want to pull ut all the stops ?

When I do tend to do is do maths off the job thats quite different from my work. So I don't know; say you specialise in athenian democracy in your job, maybe at home you go home and do some reading on Sparta.

Often the best combo is making a career; academic and professional out of an autistic specialism.  It can be a real winner for us.  That Mr Packham turned out quite nicely :-)  A bit of a national treasure, in fact, all because of his enthusiasm for his discipline.

Ultimately only you can decide, but the fact that you love the topic with a passion might make it more joy than stress for you.

After a degree, PhD and working in a related research role I still enjoy maths and science so no I don’t think you’ll get tired of it.
