Diagnosis at last

Hey everyone.

Not been on for a while as life was getting a bit much trying to get an assessment for my son. After 22 months of waiting we finally got there and have been given a diagnosis of Aspergers. This hasconcluded an 11 yr fight I have had for someone to agree that there is something and not my parenting.

Now we have the diagnosis where do I start? I have informed relatives and the school. I have had so many different emotions this week. Anger, Tearful, but most of all relief that someone has finally listened. Would be great for some advice and what to do next

  • You start by looking into what you are eligible for, if you aren't already getting it.  Such as:

    DLA for your child

    Carer's Allowance for you

Respite through social services (via assessment of need) if you are eligible

Support groups (local parent support/NAS support/social groups for your child?)

You look into what your child may need at school, such as a Statement of SEN or School Action/School Action Plus

...then you sit down with a big glass of wine and relax.
