Has anyone else had this issue?

I noticed when I drink diet sodas (very specifically diet pepsi, its not as bad with diet coke and I have never had a diet dr. Pepper) my blood sugar just....tanks. like it'll be chillin in the 90s and suddenly within half an hour of drinking the diet pepsi my blood sugar is in the low 80s or sometimes high 70s.

It should be the opposite, right? Like even with the whole no 'real' sugar thing/no calories/etc it still has stuff that would probably raise the blood sugar a little bit, wouldn't it?

Am I just imagining things? Has anyone else had this experience with diet sodas?? I only got diagnosed in January so I'm still new to what will or won't effect my levels, sorry if its a silly question.

  • I have CKD, and they've told me in the hospital to stay ckear of all these sodas, standard or low-sugar, it makes no difference, especially the dark ones. The best thing you can drink to hydrate yourself is, water straight out of the tap. To make it a little less bland i put in a small squirt of lime or lenon juice.

  • That's very true about water being the best thing to drink to stay hydrated, and it's good for getting rid of toxins from the body. My weakness in terms of carbonated drinks is lemonade. Used to be Pepsi, until I think they started tinkering with the recipe and I went completely off the taste of it.

  • I had my first Pepsi in many a year recently (I do a fizzy drink maybe twice a year) and found it agreeable. I rationed it in bottom of the glass sips over a week. Took ages to go even slightly flat, I was astounded. What a rock and roll lifestyle I lead!

I generally don't like cold drinks at all except in tiny amounts. I drink water and tea exclusively 99% of the time and I never have the water cold - always one third tap, two thirds from the kettle. I've drifted quite far off the main topic here I think, please forgive.
