When to start dating again? Wait till healthy lifestyle and body shape is attained?

I have started working quite late in my life. Till last year, I was in grad school and was quite occupied with research and publishing stuffs. Dating was not a priority and the last proper date I have been to was in 2018.

Now that I have a decent employment, I would like to attend to other aspects of my life a.k.a relationships. However, I have a problem. I have become quite out of shape over the past few years, and I feel self-conscious about my body.

In 2 years, I have gained 10 Kgs  So, I don't feel attractive or confident about myself.

So, is there a point to start dating or spend 7-8 months getting back in decent shape before getting into dating again?

  • No, don't put stuff on hold for weight loss. You don't need to lose weight to have success in dating or to feel attractive and confident. It's in the mind.

Keep in mind that around 40-50% of people in the UK gained weight during lockdown so you're not alone. I gained 20kg during lockdown; stopped working, had major surgery, two family funerals, some other bad stuff. Although I would like to lose the weight, the weight doesn't determine how I feel about myself. I actually feel more comfortable in my body now than I ever have in my life. My girlfriend is completely happy with me and my body as well.
