I’m 14 with asd and I have struggled with keeping my room clean for a while. I want to be able to have my space clean and relatively tidy, but it’s just so difficult. It feels so overwhelming and like I can never get it under control. Any tips?

Yeah.. Executive-functioning is the ability to: start-doing something, change something you’re doing, or stop-doing something; autistic-people commonly are lumbered with poor executive-function.
A good-way to circumvent this issue is to tie a special-interest of yours to the act of keeping your space clean. So my advice is to consider what you find interesting, which doesn’t necessary mean a hobby but rather something you need to do, and rope your pursuit of-that-end to having a tidy-space.
Two things really-helped me to manifest a behaviour of staying tidy; one is that I had an unstable living-situation and needed to stay light-in-assets, two is that I had room-inspections and hated being caught-unawares.
I hope this helps..
Though the thread is a year old, the struggle to keep a room clean is something many of us can relate to. As you continue on your journey to maintain a tidy space, consider using Dyson vacuums known for their powerful suction. Cleaning can still feel overwhelming, but remember, progress takes time. Break tasks into smaller steps and celebrate each achievement. Ask for support from family or friends if needed; teamwork can make the process more enjoyable. And don't forget, your room doesn't have to be perfect; it's about creating a space that feels comfortable for you.
hi! I’m 16 and have asd, and also struggle keeping my room clean so understand where you’re coming from. When it’s disorganised it stresses me out and is overwhelming to look at. But, I always enjoy planning out what I need to clean eg making to do lists or planning out what I’m going to put in certain places, I think this really helps me. I know it can be really hard to even know where to start but maybe try and set some time aside, put some music on if you like, and declutter a bit. good luck :)
