probiotics

I have just been doing some very basic research into probiotics and Autism. I'm going to talk to my health visitor and/or GP about it. My son is 6 , has been diagnosed with Aspergers and has had some digestive issues in the past. Some of the research I've seen has been really positive for some  cases, but I need to do more research and get proper advice. I just wondered if anyone had any experience of using probiotics.

  • Hi there,

My son has ASC too. He is 5 yrs old. He has some bowel issues sometimes, usually pre-emted by illness. It seems to bung him up! Watch out for Ibruprofen - its fab for temperature control with nasty viruses, but constipates my little boy. What digestive issues does your son have?

Really think it is a great idea to give probiotics. How can it harm??? There is lots of stuff about diet and autism, particularly about gluten. I am a little sceptical, tbh. My son eats like a horse - not sure how I could possibly knock gluten out of his diet. The thought makes me quiver! But a harmless supplement can only do good, I would have thought.

Have read Hohner's reply about formula milk and am a bit perplexed. Some babies can only have formula [for whatever reason and most do really well]. I did *** feed my little boy .... but OMG!!!! it was HARD, because of his extra-sensory impairment. I was very stubborn and kept on expressing and managing to get him on the ***, until he was 5 mnths old, but babies with ASC are notoriously hard to B/F. So if you didn't please do not blame yourself.

My son [despite the breasfeeding!] has had 2 frightening and serious bacterial infections, one very recently, and I have put him on ecinacea, manuka honey and floradix. I'll find out, when he goes back to school, if it has had the required effect of boosting his immune system.

    Good luck. Love Rosemary. xx
