Female Aspies and their monthly

I quite by accident in May came across that I am an Aspie.

I went to the doctors in June to see if I could get some help with reguards to my monthly. With disreguards to the daily battles of how any Aspie copes day to day, my first reaction was to try to combat my periods first and then deal with the Aspergers side of me.

I'm 39, and have always suffered more around my period time, I general would say I only get about 10 free days maxium of my monthly not adding to just general day to day survival.

I only seem to suffer slight pain the first 24 hours of when I begin to bleed, that I can handle. It's the mood swings I'm in desperation for help with.

I am going back to the doctors this coming week, to discuss going down the lines of a diagnostic about the Aspergers, I'm in a very dark place with it and not coping at all well.

My plea here is not down the lines about the diagnose, but, more from any other female Aspies how they cope with their periods and if there is anything to help this time of the month?

  • Hey Gina,

I know it's quite a while since you posted, but what you wrote struck such a massive chord with me, I just had to write. I wonder how you're getting on, and whether you've tried any forms of contraceptive. For me personally (I have AS, and appalling mood issues before my period) the pill and the Mirena both made everything worse. Quite a lot worse to be honest.

How are you doing? I am currently trying to deal with the problem using a cocktail of herbal remedies, though I'm only one month in. I don't really go in for hippy concoctions, but there is some compelling evidence to suggest some of them might work...

    Anyway, all the best! E
