Female Aspies and their monthly

I quite by accident in May came across that I am an Aspie.

I went to the doctors in June to see if I could get some help with reguards to my monthly. With disreguards to the daily battles of how any Aspie copes day to day, my first reaction was to try to combat my periods first and then deal with the Aspergers side of me.

I'm 39, and have always suffered more around my period time, I general would say I only get about 10 free days maxium of my monthly not adding to just general day to day survival.

I only seem to suffer slight pain the first 24 hours of when I begin to bleed, that I can handle. It's the mood swings I'm in desperation for help with.

I am going back to the doctors this coming week, to discuss going down the lines of a diagnostic about the Aspergers, I'm in a very dark place with it and not coping at all well.

My plea here is not down the lines about the diagnose, but, more from any other female Aspies how they cope with their periods and if there is anything to help this time of the month?

  • Still the same ATM, I'm currently going thoroughly the very early stages off getting diagnosed for the AS. Before Christmas he said for me to start undergoing some counselling for their opinion to see where they'd refer me. If it was down the Aspies route then he would talk to me again about it.

The councellor said I'm showing her all the classic signs, so has referred me back to the Drs this Tuesday, for a referral to WADS. So will be asking him again about the periods.

i did try dong quai ( I think that's what they were called) but nothing for me.

Youll have to let me know how you get on with them.

  • Lie in a hot bath pointing to the east, so you move with the water E_motional tides of the moon. Going back to biblical times, the woman would spend a week in a hot bathing pool, not near men(as there sun energy pulls them other way,, hence agruments happen).. or if you are looking for a quick push GO VISIT THE BEACH when the tide is going out.

  • Hey Gina,

I know it's quite a while since you posted, but what you wrote struck such a massive chord with me, I just had to write. I wonder how you're getting on, and whether you've tried any forms of contraceptive. For me personally (I have AS, and appalling mood issues before my period) the pill and the Mirena both made everything worse. Quite a lot worse to be honest.

How are you doing? I am currently trying to deal with the problem using a cocktail of herbal remedies, though I'm only one month in. I don't really go in for hippy concoctions, but there is some compelling evidence to suggest some of them might work...

    Anyway, all the best! E

  • I have an hormone  injection every 12 weeks to help with my migraines. it's actually a contraceptive , but stops my migraines and my periods too. Nothing to remember to take everyday and no implants or invasive coils. I just turn up show them my bum and I'm done for 12 weeks.

There is definitely something out there that can help.

  • A low dose Beta Blocker may help your cramps and mood swings, in Autism you can only manage your symptoms the best you can, as we are mostly hard wired, you need a month plan so to say, just see the doctor again, again, again.

  • I hate periods. I sometimes get intense period pain, almost like mini contractions. I always need to sit down when this happens, but the pain subsides after the first day in my case. The female curse, I call it.

  • Thank you Crystal and Azalea. I think it'll be time to bite the bullet then and try the pill. When I spoke to the doctor in June I was asking and enquiring about the marina coil or the implant as I have heard from various mainly NT females that this has helped them, lots. She didn't want to try this but did suggest the pill. My two fears of the pill were how forgetful I can be where pills are concerned and please do not think me of as vain as I can assure you I'm far from it, but the fear of weight gain. Even more so considering I do work within the fitness industry.

Time to put those fears aside now and try it.

    Thank you again ladies.

    Gina

  • hi - I don't know if doctors still do this, but the contraceptive pill was used to help women with mood swings + sometimes with heavy bleeds.  Might be worth asking + see what your doctor thinks.
