Toilet issues help!

Hi my ten year old son is in the process of an Aspergers diagnosis. He won't use the toilets at school despite the SENCO giving him a pass to a private toilet, a photo on reception so he isn't questioned and today even escorting him there! Any one else had same issues and any advice gratefully received

  • Hi armalite

I had very similar issues with my son when he was younger and we too went to see a specialist.  When he had a bottle it was no problem but he also would not take any other medicine.  He used to bleed when he went for a poo.  My son would simply not go unless he was somewhere he was comfortable.  Thankfully he has not messed himself but when he was much younger we used to put a pull up on him when he needed to go, so it was messy but not as bad as it could be.  I don't know if your son is too old for this now but maybe worth a try? My son now goes fine at home but checks that all doors are closed first and that we all stay away from the bathroom door.  I don't think he will ever poo at school but at least he has some coping mechanisms.  Toileting seems to be a regular problem with ASD.  Now the majority of our toiletting issues are outside the home, days out can be difficult and school the same.

Good luck and let me know how it goes.
