anyone used independent speech therapist?

Hi!

My 9 yer old son has autism and serious communication problems but our PCT refused to provide any services that involves speech therapists.

I am now looking for an independent speech therapist.  Wodnering if there are anyone who used (or are currently using) an independent speech therapist? How is your experience? How mcuh does it cost? I live in West Midlands. Any independent speech therapists that you can recommend?

I've checked website of speech therapists in independent practice and sent e-mail to a fews therapists but none of them have replied!

anyone knows?

  • Hiya, yes, I have used independent SLT who I found by going to www.helpwithtalking.com

By chance I found the most incredible SLT – I am so glad she is in independent practice – her talents would be completely wasted in the NHS.

I used her for my dd's severe receptive and expressive language delay (chronological age 4 years 1 month, receptive language age 18months). Our SLT managed to progress my daughter's language 18months to 2 years within the space of 9 months of weekly therapy. It was the best money we have ever spent on my dd!

By contrast, at the same time we had my dd assessed by NHS SLT. Result of assessment was 'no language problems identifiable'!!!

If you find a good one they are worth their weight in gold! They are pricey though. Can't advise about W Mids and I am not in your area. I would maybe ring rather than e-mail?
