I'm feeling scared - most likely formal diagnosis this week

Hi all. My girl has appointment wednesday with her Dr. Her Speech Therapist came to her additional needs play group last week, and for the first time all week, Daisy had an hour long melt down because she was not aloud outside to play until later. She said she is going to email the Dr quickly before Wednesday and recommend she be diagnosed already with ASD and to be reviewed in a year. She said it will help as I will get so much support. What kind? Social Workers etc?

The actual label for her is so scary. I know that it changes nothing it's all the same after but its confusing how I feel.

I'm feeling so scared, I was really upset in March when the Dr said yes, she does have problems. It was hard hearing someone else say it?

The Doctor has only met her once and Speech therapist twice. Is it usual for it to be so quick? she is 3 next month.

I'm sorry to bug you all with this I just don't know who to talk to xx

  • Hi Ive just replied to the post you left me then I saw this. Im not sure you can get a diagnosis that fast. (although I could be wrong) When you say doctor do you mean gp or someone at CAHMS My ds was refered to CAHMS by my gp and we then had 2 and a half years of tests and assesments. Your dd will have to meet certain criteria to be diagnosed.  There are different assessments depending how old your child is, we had an ADOS and a ADI amongst other things. If you google assessments for autism in children there is lots of info out there. Sorry I cant be of more help and you are not bugging anyone. I understand how scared and confused you are because I feel the same. Hugs x
