Hi
In answer to your question about a portage worker.
They ususally work with under 5s.
They will support you ususally in your home . They will visit and help with basic daily stuff. They will play with your daughter and talk to you imformally so its a good chance to talk and ask questions.
Hope this helps

Hi. Portage is a support service, def. not Social Worker, they will be a great support, as they can visit you at home and give advice directly to you. We have had a real battle in getting our diagnosis, my daughter was diagnosed at 14, even though for years we asked for diagnosis. Also if you contact your LA (Local Authority) they should be able to put you in touch with support services, or send you any SEN leaflets or newsletters they produce.
Good luck!
Maybe they only work with children? xx
I've never heard of a portage worker if im honest hun. Could you google it? xx
It's always a waiting game isn't it. I waited a few years before i was finally assessed. I am also waiting for a social worker so i can have an assessment there.
Hope you get some proper help and support cos i know my mum struggles.
Good luck.

If you click discussion forum and scroll down you will see a parents and carers bit to click. That may be useful.
I don't know why i was so late. I had mental health problems from 11years of age and been selfharming since i was 12. I been in psychiatric hospital few times since i was 17. But i don't mean any of this to worry you as this is all due to being misdiagnosed twice.
Do you have any support from anyone that could help your daughters speech? I was opposite, talking early so i don't know how to help i am afraid. But i know my nephew is 22months and only says a few words whereas his twins sister has full conversations. They are all different. Your daughter is special and unique.

Hi there. Welcome to the site. You will definitely meet friends as i have met lots of lovely people. You could try chatting in the parents and carers forum too as you may find similar people with similar experiences there. But you're welcome to write anywhere.
It's good that your daughter has been diagnosed so young as (fingers crossed) you will get support.
I was only diagnosed last year aged 23 and have struggled all through school but feel a relief now knowing.
How do you feel about things?
Anne. x
