Advice needed on how to manage Adult meltdowns!

Hi, Im new to the forum and was wondering if anyone could give any advice. Im a woman with high functioning Autism and have 5 children. I usually manage very well day to day as I have routines and lists! Over the past 3 weeks things have been going wrong (just one thing after another to deal with) and now I find myself in a huge meltdown situatuation and have been like this for 3 days! I find that I can deal with problems as they arise but always go into meltdown afterwards. I cannot concentrate on anything and feel like my head is fizzing, I am very anxious and have butterflies running through my body, I am extremely angry and any small thing is tipping me over the edge. I have tried relaxing with a new book from my favourite author, have tried relaxing with my hobbies, I even went for a run last night which temporarily brought some relief but I just don't feel right. Can anyone suggest anything to help? Many Thanks in advance Karen

  •  When I lived in Edinburgh I always felt calmer after  walking on the beach. I guess I have more stresses now I can't just jump on a local bus to the coast now.Not easy to go to the beach living in West London.

If you live near a river or lake I highly recommend walking or sitting by water.

  • hi James,

Thank you very much for your advice! I am feeling slightly calmer today as the sun is shining and Im going for a walk with my children. The sun always makes me feel better, maybe I should move to a sunny country :o) Sometimes I just wish I could be calm!

  • Hi Karen,

I guess we all have our dark times, I have had a torrid few days but I generally lock myself away from the world at such times. My wife bought me a shed where I study, watch films and play my X Box (not all at once). Isolation helps me because social situations are my big stumbling block.

I like Audio Books myself, I find being read to very soothing especially when I cannot sleep at night.

However you find peace at the time you need it the most will be right for you but I have just told you what I do.

If you ever need to unload I am always around.

    James
