Advice pleas if possible

Good Evening

My son who is 30 is on  income support/esa i recently recieved a form to fill in for his review which i did .Last saturday i recieved a letter from my drs practice saying he needs to go for a General Health assesment. Now kieran as issues with leaving the house he hasnt left since june 2014 due to his fear oof the outside. So i go down to my drs and explain the situation the receptionist says well we ll get the dr to ring him.No he wouldnt communicate with anyone else.Get him to write a letter to give us permission to speak to you about him no he doesnt write well enough. You write a letter and get him to sign it and bring your appointee form from DWP.So i went away did all this went back saw the receptionist from hell who i tried to explain again i knew she wasnt really interested but photocopied the documnets  it will go on his medical records "will the dr ring me (to much trouble) listening again) i ll make you an appoinment for a telephone consultation wednesay 3rd august bye.Now i didnt know if they were ringing him or ringing to speak to me waited in all day no phone call because he hasnt been to the drs since he was about 10 i mthinking now maybe wrong telephone number on record  but shouldnt she have asked if the details were correct. What do i do now approach drs to go over all this again or ring DWP and speak to them.

  • Stick to your guns. most practices do offer house calls......

Think about transferring practices, if this is feaseable for you, if this GP Sugery isn't helping much X

  • like most Drs surgeries now getting an appoinment is like asking for the earth

The letter i recieved was addressed to my son

    Dear xxx

we are now in reciept of a letter from the DWP to assess your suitability for work.Since we have not seen you for a while the Dr would like to review you and assess your general health please make a convenient appoinment for this

He as had letters about health checks before and i have again trundled down and explained the situation 4 times now last time they said leave it with us we ll sort it same receptionist by coincedence

f he cant go out how can he go to work and to put a sort clarity on this how many 30 year olds do you know who get excited when a new Thomas the tank engine DVD is released and must have it straight away

  • I have heard that the DWP do medical assessments at the home so the Son needn't go out. In fact there something on one of the threads this year about that. But best advice there would be to contact the support line here to ask them how to arrange it.

You shouldn't need a general assessment from the Dr's first. I am confused with that.

But most certain the DWP do home medical assessments

I would strongly urge you to contact the helpline number of NAS and explain the situation and explain the recent dr's thing.  My dr too wouldn't do a letter but legally i think we are entitled to one at a fee of £10.

But have no worried about the son not going out. He don't have to from what I remember of medical assessments.

Is it that the medical practice is just asking for a completely different 'review'. Since you have had problems with the reception. Book an appointment to see the Dr and go and explain the situation and ask if they do home visits and can do it that way. Most practices offer home visits to those ill enough they can't get  out and if he hasn't left the home in a few years because of things then arguable he is ill enough....
