Support for adults

Looking for some advice - does anyone know how to apply for Adult Autism support from a local authority (UK) and what sort of support can a local authority provide?

Also, has anyone who's asked for and received support from a local authority found it helpful?

My local authority - Powys - unfortunately does not currently provide any adult specific autism support.

  • Thank you all for your replies.

Apologies but I didn't word my post too well - I was referred by doctor for assessment of and support for diagnosed autism but unfortunately [removed by mod] LA still considers Autism to be a Mental Illness/disorder....

[Removed by mod] County Council did run a 'pilot mapping and gapping' scheme under the guise of providing a "[Removed by mod] ASD Outreach/Support Worker" but in reality the 'role of the ASD Outreach/Support Worker' was to try to prove that Autism is a Mental Illness/Disorder as is what ultimately has happened to me and my family.

I can relate to the unrequited hope classic codger! Many thanks for your link. It's great and reassuring to be able to communicate with people in similar situations.

NAS '40 plus advice' have not been able to help other than to put me in touch with solicitors - who advised that I go through LA complaints process first.

Approx. one year into complaints process now and nearly two years since referral for assessment of already acknowledged and agreed needs.

[Removed by mod] County Council continues to deny its actions/non actions - even the actions it's provided me written records of and astoundly even denied non actions previously confirmed in writing.

This is my own opinion but so long as the 'D' remains in 'ASD' we are unlikely to recieve appropriate support.
