I don't know what to do with my therapist

My therapist is AuDHD, and I understand that sometimes she forgot things.

She was supposed to give me the PDF with my test results and diagnosis by the end of July, yet I’m still waiting. We had arranged to move a session up to September 11th—that was the last time she replied to me, and the session never happened. This Monday we had to have an online session and she didn't show up and didn't answered my texts.I don’t know what to do; I truly understand that she might be overwhelmed or going through a difficult time, but I see her posting Instagram stories and I feel sad, anxious, and desperate.

Has anyone else been through a situation like this? I need some advice on what to do; I even thought about drafting an email—thinking that maybe WhatsApp messages might be causing her anxiety—to ask if she’s okay and tell her that if she needs time, that’s fine, but she should let me know so I can adjust my expectations.

Thank you

  • Hi

I think what you suggested writing an email would be a great idea. I don’t know how you are managing to cope and be so calm about this situation. I have therapy and this sort of thing would send me into a spiral because I struggle with feelings of worthlessness. I might have wondered if something bad had happened to her but if she is able to post on instagram that is unlikely. I understand when you have built a rapport over two years that is something that you wouldn't want to lose. Maybe send the email and explain how this uncertainty is affecting you and move forward from there.  I would be reluctant to lose the connection you have but you deserve to be treated with respect too.

Wishing you well and hopefully you can salvage the relationship and move forward. Sometimes there is a logical explanation for these things. Keep us posted.Purple heart

  • Thanks for your words. I’m going to send an email; I’m still not quite sure what to say—I’ve been mulling it over. To be honest, the situation has really been getting to me; I had a bit of a breakdown yesterday and couldn't stop crying, though I'm doing better today. Reading everyone's posts on this forum has really helped me a lot. After I send the email, I'll let you know how it went.

  • I can understand why the situation would be getting to you and making you cry. I can’t tell you what to put in the email but maybe try to explain how deeply this has hurt and affected you. I would feel exactly the same BTW. Please don't feel under pressure to keep me posted just concentrate on helping yourself feel better. Sometimes there is a logical explanation and it’s not at all what we have in our minds, at least I have found it to be the case anyway.

Hope you can resolve this soon or maybe your therapist comes back online soon.Fingers crossedPurple heart
