Counselling- worth it or damaging if not done with a counsellor who understands autism?

Anyone like to share their experinces and opinions on counselling as a diagnosed autistic person please. I'm really struggling and I have the option to give it a try but I'm not sure.

  • I have therapy, it was because of my therapist that I sought out a diagnosis. She is autistic and I actually don’t think I would get through this thing called life without her right now. She does person centred therapy, but in the past I have had straight forward counselling on the phone and also CBT. I probably wouldn’t recommend the CBT but it was the gateway to the other help I have received. You can try a session with someone to see how you get on, ask any questions and get the feel for it. Some do face to face, some online.
