Protest at the Port of Dover

Has anyone else seen this? An unknown number but reconned to be in the hundreds of black clad and masked men turned up at the Port of Dover today and blocked every entrance and exit to it. causing huge delays for travellers and a 4 mile lorry tailblack. The police apparently know nothing about it, no one seems to know who they were or what group they were representing or who organised it. The police just walked alongside the protesters, who were seemingly peaceful until they dispearsed some time later. It seems they were protesting about boat corssings of immigrants, but I'm not sure if anyone really knows?

Should we be worried about this, a lot of people were really scared, especially lone women?

I've been active in poitical protests on and off for years, I've never seen anything like this before, usually when protesting you want everyone to know who you are and why you're there, not disguise youself behind masks and carry nothing to say who you're representing.

  • What is even crazier is I saw a comment on social media by a woman saying "from all women, thank you for making us feel safer". Sorry, how on earth is a huge group of masked and hooded men making anyone feel safer. So much race related hate seems to around at the moment and it makes me feel really sad.

  • The irony is that many of these far right, anti-immigrant groups say they want to protect "our women and children", but themselves have convictions for domestic violence.

My daughter in law was subject to a racist attack just after brexit, she was walking home from work and some random bloke pushed her really hard into a lampost causing her severe bruising to her face. He shouted some pro brexit racist slogan at her as he pushed her and just walked off, she didn't even see his face. My son has taught her some basic self defence stuff, in case she gets attacked again. She has plans to relocate to Canada if Reform ever get elected.

How did no one know about this group and how did that level of organisaion go unnoticed and it has to have been very organised. I'm glad it was peaceful, but how come it was just ordinary police? Where were the mounted officers, where were the riot squads and meat wagons? I can't help feeling that if this had been a left wing political protest, police would have rapidly mobilised, people would of been kettled and picked up and bundled into the back of police vans and held, possibly arrested for public order offenses or even terrorism

  • Yes you are absolutely right. It makes me sick to my stomach the way that some people talk about other in this country, it really doesn't. It's sad she feels she would need to relocate but I don't blame her.

It would make you assume that it's been organised on the dark web. Much harder for the police to monitor. I can only assume that it was normal police because it was peaceful. It's a difficult call to make because if that had changed then it would have taken too long for riot squads to turn up. But I do think sometimes the appearance of riot squads can escalate things, it's almost like the sign of defence triggers aggression.
