Do you think it is wrong for someone to say they are autistic when they aren't diagnosed?

Do you think it is wrong for someone to say they are autistic when they aren't diagnosed?

I don't want to cause any arguments on here just wanted people's honest opinions because I am not diagnosed myself and not sure i want to go down the assessment route and feel at present that I would only be doing so for other people's benefit to prove I am and not my own.

  • I don't think it is wrong if someone truly believes they are autistic. Anyone diagnosed as an adult was self diagnosed first and we don't become autistic when we are diagnosed.

    What is not ok is when people use it as an off hand comment and don't actually mean they are autistic at all. They are just referring to one behaviour trait. People say it with things like OCD too when they just mean they are a bit particular or like things tidy. This is damaging to those with actual difficulties.
