Offer an Interview Scheme

I am currently applying for jobs after being made redundant over a year ago.

Many of the employers are “disability confident” and run an “offer an interview” scheme. This means that if you declare a disability - like autism - and meet the essential criteria for a role, you will ‘normally be offered an interview”.

But I am experiencing many instances of not being offered an interview at all, even though I’ve disclosed a disability and certainly do meet the essential criteria.

Is anyone else having this experience?

I'm sorry to hear about your redundancy a year ago and some of the difficulties you've been experiencing whilst applying for a new job, which can be particularly difficult for Autistic people.     Sorry to hear that - I would write to your MP, this simply isn't good enough - its tokenism and needs to be called out as such even if the scheme is voluntary

    I was also made redundant by a “disability confident” employer; I contacted the people who run the "disability confident” scheme and heard nothing from them. At this point, though, I am just interested in hearing about anybody else’s experiences.

    you do the know that "disability confident" is a UK Gov scheme - that should tell you enough by itself !

    However, the scheme is completely self policed largely by those who sign up - there is no independant vetting

    That said I would note every instance and send a separate complaint to the gov dept that runs "disability cofident"  I would also send a letter following to the company saying you have made a complaint to UK Gov that a "Disability Confident" member is advertising "offer an interview" in job adverts but not actually doing so when you've clearly disclosed disability and also meeting the min role requirements .

    you may need to disclose to both your Autism and also a copy of the job spec, with the essential criteria , perhaps with you application and CV showing how you measure against them - together with the letter to say you have been unsucessul

    Let's call these shams out
