Am I controlling

I feel stupid posting this but it has really affected me and I need some advice.i am audhd and my partner and I like to listen to sleep stories. Last night I found one called princess and unicorn and was super excited because those are our nicknames for each other. He gave me a response which felt dismissive . This led to me feeling stupid and childish  for liking things like this that are for children. I got really upset and he didn't understand. I felt the moment was spoiled. He accused me of policing his feelings and being coercive and controlling.. I was so upset because I love him very much and would never knowingly be bad to him. Does it sound like I was controlling and if so what do I do about it?

  • I can't say what your partber ment only they know that

What I will say is dont feel bad for like things that are for children as autistics we often seen to have safe space shows books songs games and films hat are aimed at children for example today I bought 12 films. All from the kids section

But people assume this means we have a low mental age which may be true if another disability is also present for some but to assume this is rude like I also like other shows and fil s and books and songs too

As long as its not harming anyone I dont see an issue (look at how many adults enjoy bluey)

  • Thank you Alexa, I think you may be right. I'll have a word with him later. I was confused because everything seemed ok this morning.

  • I can't offer an opinion about the upsetting conversation because these things are so much a matter of how two people relate to each other. However, one thing I've observed in Neurotypical people is that many of them say things when they're irritated that they don't mean. Their words are an expression of how they feel in the moment e.g. anger, so want to hit out. I find that behaviour difficult as I take things literally. It might be that this is what happened between the two of you. Once he's cooled down, could you ask him if he means it and, if so, what you did that made him annoyed?
