Describing sensitivity

Hi, I have been trying to describe how certain sensitivities affect me. I have found it so difficult to put it into words. All I have been able to say is that the sounds are painful but without physical pain. Clothes and some materials feel scratchy to the point of feeling complete despair, smells are so potent that I can’t breathe. But my line manager thinks I am overreacting and told me to stop being a wimp. Does anybody else find it difficult to explain these things and does anybody have any ideas of how to put this into words?

Thank you

  • For me I just say I have an over active central nervous system and over active senses. Therefore experiencing things at 10,000 fold to a non autistic person. In my experience I have found most people don’t give a **** or can’t understand it or just think I’m being fussy, so I work on a damage limitation mode by doing what I can to either avoid or find a way round it if I can.
