Describing sensitivity

Hi, I have been trying to describe how certain sensitivities affect me. I have found it so difficult to put it into words. All I have been able to say is that the sounds are painful but without physical pain. Clothes and some materials feel scratchy to the point of feeling complete despair, smells are so potent that I can’t breathe. But my line manager thinks I am overreacting and told me to stop being a wimp. Does anybody else find it difficult to explain these things and does anybody have any ideas of how to put this into words?

Thank you

  • For me high pitch tones are like electric shock hitting my brain directly,  even if they are quiet, still make me mad. I hate certain fabric. Now it's not that extreme, but in my childhood whenever I had to touch velvet, I had a vomiting reflex and for this reason suffered in cars. Still hate it. Only cotton. I also remember that i used to hate seems in my clothes,  till I realised that by following them I can actually recreate the process of making clothes. And I started sewing for my dolls which gave me a lot of fun, relax and satisfaction. I'm also close to vomit at some smells. Other smells make it hard for me to breathe. For example smell of z dog. Others are not bothered, I can't breathe. Or when someone cooks beef. My husband cooks beef sometimes,  I escape to the last room in our flat and close 3 pairs of doors and still smell it.
