Making friends/loneliness

Hi Wave  I'm a bit new so please be patient with me:)

Something I've struggled with my whole life is making friends and finding likeminded people. Lately I've felt so much more isolated than usual and I feel a bit hopeless.

I'm 26 but every time I try and make friends or socialize with people, I feel like I'm that weird, lonely 13 year old again who doesn't have a place anywhere, and although it feels embarrassing to even say, I'm really, really lonely. Everyone around me seems to have friends and I just don't get it.

It's so hard to make friends as an adult. How do you even do it? Where do you even go? Does anyone else find this really difficult?

  • I would suggest to have something like pinned threads in this forum (less than 3 to avoid cluttering).

(Pinned threads are threads that would be set to appear first in the list of posts.)

One, for people looking for friends. Another example could be "Helplines".

Then people would have more chances of actually making a friend in that thread, since everyone has the same goal.

    Maybe moderators can consider it.

How do you even do it?

Here are some ways but I've not used them:

    1. I know of people using some phone app. They meet and see whether they get along.
    2. Another way is to go to autism community events (or hobbyist events as suggested by  ), but not all places have.
    3. Hang around here and check for others looking for friends (it's very common!)
