I though it might be nice to have a thread that we can take into the summer and beyond, as the Spring thread will soon be redundant.

Yesterday  sent me down a rabbit hole when she mentioned this book on the 3 Good Things thread:

I then looked at this book:

The reason for the book made me sad:

“When the most recent edition of the Oxford Junior Dictionary — widely used in schools around the world — was published, a sharp-eyed reader soon noticed that around forty common words concerning nature had been dropped. The words were no longer being used enough by children to merit their place in the dictionary. The list of these ‘lost words’ included acorn, adder, bluebell, dandelion, fern, heron, kingfisher, newt, otter, and willow. Among the words taking their place were attachment, blog, broadband, bullet-point, cut-and-paste, and voice-mail…."

    The ground is so dry it will take ages to even be able to soak in.

    I'd read some stats on that question somewhere - a very long time to be out of drought.

    I found that thread hard to understand. 

    We are all different and I personally don't find the writing or thinking styles of others here problematic.

    Also we only see a glimpse often of the real person. 

    I think if we aren't careful we isolate ourselves.

    I felt a bit ‘othered’, but I responded with some of what I thought, although   didn’t reply directly to me. That makes it difficult to address issues. There is room on this forum for all sorts of writing style and we are free to engage or ignore as we choose. 

    I do agree with you that we get only a glimpse of the real person. Our whole lives aren’t lived on this forum and things and some ‘deep thoughts’ would be hidden. Emotions too are hidden unless we explicitly say. It’s a fallacy to think otherwise. As you say, we need to take care not to isolate ourselves.
