Bloody annoying notification

They're machines they don't emote, they don't want to do things for us, they just sit there waiting for us to put the laundry in and switch them on. 

Just now I got a the black banner for my reply was posted and a notification would that be because on the thread I clicked 'turn reply notifications on'? 

Yeah I did this too! Didn't notice the save at the bottom (and that you need to check the boxes on the left to turn then off completely, not just the right side ones.

I forgot about the save click at first and wondered why I was still getting them! 

Did you save the changes you made?

If not, unselect the notifications in the boxes. Scroll to the bottom of the page and click ‘ Save’.

It's okay, I do it all the time too. But I had seen and fixed my notifications after you said, so thanks!

Please accept my apologies Cinnabar_wing . I had a sudden loss of confidence in my reply when looking at the screenshot that I was adding, via an edit, so I deleted it pending checking my answer. 

I'd meant to come back to it, but I forgot (due to certain other forum issues!). Looking at it again now, I think it was actually OK after all. My brain was too tired to recognise why there were two shaded-out, "live alert" options. But, of course, they're only shaded out because I'd already disabled those types of notifications overall.

I'm a little confused, when this was first posted, bunny added instructions to do this, and I replied with thanks, but both posts went missing?

You can turn unwanted notifications off.

The Online Community Instructions state how to select notifications so you can unselect them. 

To change notification settings: 

1. Click your profile icon → Settings. 
2. Go to the Notifications section. 
3. Tick the boxes to choose how you want to be notified (email, live alerts, or both). (Right hand of screen)

I have just been notified that I posted a comment… Wow …these IT geeks are soooo smart to make it to tell me what I know.

I don’t suppose there is any chance the MODS will see the number of comments and actually do something?

You and me both Martin, I miss being avle to plug something in and have it work, without it wanting to connect to my phone, which I don't have, my hive, which I don't have, no I just want to turn the bl00dy light on!

Maybe it's helpful for people with visual impairments, but my kitchen has become a beep-fest, and they lead my dog to bark too (to alert me - good lad) so it gets quite noisy!

I completely get you, Professor. I have browser notifications hard-blocked by default for all sites in my browser of choice. I do have email notifications turned on for this forum, as I find that easier to manage.

In general, I disallow any notification requests from other apps on my computer or phone, then manually set what I'm willing to tolerate. It does annoy me that's an all-or-nothing situation when an app requests to send you notifications, there should be a 'let me choose' option or better still let me specify how I want notifications handled and use that. 

I miss the days when electrical/electronic things just had an on/off switch, and didn't ask you if you really wanted to turn them off.

I'm guessing it's the machines etc letting us know they're still 'alive' and waiting for the next command, but it does get annoying

I get a little black bar telling me my reply has been posted, as so many things seem to fall into thin air, I find it quite helpul to know that the site, my pooter, the internet is actually working. Although I dont' know if this is the same as what you mean, I agree with you about beeps, I mean WHY? And why does my waashing machine have to sing a little tune to tell me it's finished?
