Making friends in person

Hi, I recently lost my friend group after going through a marriage separation. I am used to losing friendships over the years but I think I might still want a friend. I tried to join a local group for autistic adults about 6 months ago but they never called back.

I was just wondering if anyone had any other suggestions to make friends (I'm 44). I love crafts but I find it really hard just walking into the room on my own to even start the process. Just wondered what your experiences were or any suggestions?

  • Hi

I would try to contact the local group again sometimes your details get lost in the system.

My local autism group has been my saviour, to be around people like me is so affirming and it helps build confidence in who you are.

I get how you feel about walking into a room of strangers but remember they probably all feel like you do. It might be an idea to ask if someone could meet you outside venue just so you don’t feel as anxious if you do decide to attend a in person group.

Keep connecting on here too, you might meet a friend who doesn’t live too far from where you are.
