Assessment yesterday

So i finally had my assessment yesterday after 4 years on the waiting list. Today I'm feling all over the place. The assessors were amazing and so supportive so the experience was a really positive one but I'm feeling all over the place mentally today.

  • I had my ADOS-2 interview a couple of weeks ago and my Mum is doing the ADI-R Informant interview today. I was a bit of a mess after my ADOS, but I've settled down a bit now. It's not easy is it! I think what I'm realising is that I now have the opportunity to redefine myself in terms of what I need, not what I think I'm expected to be. It's going to take time and energy, but I'm in a safe place and I can begin to deepen my understanding of myself. I've started reading "How To Be Autistic" which was shared in one of the other posts a couple of days ago, and it started me looking forward to things after the assessment. I started to get that feeling of excitement at new possibilities, which I've not felt for a long time. It feels a bit like a new starting point. I hope you feel a bit less overwhelmed soon. I can definitely recommend the "How To Be Autistic" book (it's free, this is the link: https://howtobeautistic.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/how-to-be-autistic.pdf).
