Burnout

My energy feels completely drained, not just physically, but mentally too. Things that normally take some effort but are manageable now feel overwhelming. Basic tasks, conversations, decisions all seem harder. I’ve noticed my tolerance for stress and noise is much lower. I’m also finding it difficult not to judge myself for “falling behind” even though I know burnout isn’t a personal failure. Right now I’m trying to focus on reducing demands, that’s easier said than done. If anyone has gone through autistic burnout and has suggestions, I’d really appreciate hearing it. Thanks for reading.

  • I've had to take steps to cut out a lot of stuff that's very stress-inducing for me. That means things like switching off the radio when a news bulletin is due or listening to a music stream instead. (I can highly recommend BBC Radio 3 Unwind, by the way, no news at all!) I already stepped off of social media several years ago, but I keep up with stuff via a carefully-curated list of blogs and news sites. But most of all, I recommend getting out of the house for a long walk somewhere like a park, it's good physical exercise and helps clear your head, I try to do that every day weather permitting.
