  • There are 2 issues, perceived risk and actual risk.

    1. Fear of the unknown. This is where your mind imagines things to be worse than they are. If you read news all day, believe social media, etc. you would think it's a war zone.
But it you think over the the 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, 5 years, how many times have you actually seen a problem, not heard or read about it,  it helps to keep things in perspective.
Your imagination is very good at thinking the worst. It is trying to protect you.
If you are stressed, due to noise, lack of sleep, pressure, you are more prone to the this.
If you are confident and happy, you tend not to think about it, but the risk is still the same.
    2. Actual risk. If you live somewhere dodgy, like a tower block on a poor estate surrounded by drug dealers, gangs and criminals, then it may actually not be so safe to go out. But also think about 1, have you seen any actual issues?
It is harder to say what you do in this case. I don't want to give specific advice.

Then there is also the habit element and general avoidance. E.g. I don't want to go out because it makes me anxious, so I'll avoid it. Since I only go out once a week I can't go out more than that. You might then use some justification for this subconsciously. This should be easier to check by looking for patterns and querying if the reasons are really true or necessary.
