Do you have favourite sounds?

I know this up is completely unoriginal - but definitely birdsong, and the sound of the breeze in the trees. I particularly love the sound of an owl calling near my house at night, and a curlew call. But all birdsong sounds like heaven to me. Also water - the sound of a gentle bubbling brook or gentle rain on the window. 

All of this (including the owls near us too!) Curlew song is gorgeous, it's like a dream. Whimbrel is close but not quite.

Blackbirds and song thrush in the evening, chiffchaff in the woods, yellowhammer and even stone chat in the hedges.

Oyster Catchers are a little more shrill when they are making their breeding call rounds late in the summer over the house (we aren't even near the sea but they have come inland).

Spotting the buzzard or the skylark if your are lucky after hearing their call.

The rustling of a thousand wings as starlings murmerate above you.

Bliss.

I agree with all of the above except perhaps owls, I had a pair of them twit twooing outside my bedroom window one night, everytime I almost dropped off, they'd start shouting at each other again. I used to have crows living in some tree's near me, they would make an extraordinary range of sounds, some of the oddest were dropping twigs on those walking below their trees and then "laughing" at the surprised humans below.

Cat's purring is a lovely sound.

The ringing silence of a really cold clear frosty night, it sounds like the afternote of a bell.

The sound of a razor cutting through hair.

The silence after a radio is turned off, its like a huge sigh of relief

Isn’t that funny about the crows - amazing! When I was a child my brother found an injured crow and we nursed it back to health - and when it was well again we released it - it flew away and that’s the only time I’ve ever seen my brother cry. I love the sound of waves on a shingle beach - as the wave pulls back moving all the shingle - just wonderful. Thank you Almond for starting this thread - it’s so lovely to think about this. One sound I find really eerie is the sound of a fox barking - it’s such an unsettling and evocative sound - excitingly spooky :)
