Repeated behaviour feels compulsive and distressing

I've had repeated behviours since as long as i am able to remember. For example when opening a website i open every hyperlink on the page in a new tab. This usually goes on for several hours at a time. And i am unable to stop. This leaves me wishing i was dead every single day. I have sought treatment from an ocd specialist to be told that these behaviours are due to autism. This means that there is no treatment.

Please what do i do?

  • If you had a timer, so you could click on as many links as you wanted in say 10 minutes but then had to stop or close the page, do you think you could do that?

Then you could slowly reduce the time, and reduce the clicks, then try leaving the page open but not clicking.

    It would slowly retrain you.

Or you could have a reward if you achieve some limit, like a biscuit or sweet.

Or maybe open the page, count to 5 before clicking.

Then once that was easy count to 10, and slowly get longer.

It is about seeing nothing bad happens if you pause, wait a while or have a limit, then a case of breaking the habit.

You probably do it because of some fear or some reward your subconscious has attached to it. So you need to slowly retrain it.

I don't know if these ideas may help?
