Rapport with clinical psychologist assessing

I had first session of autism assessment last Tuesday. The psychologist that was there said the session was all about establishing a rapport. Ironically the one thing I came away thinking was that I have no confidence in her and actually find her intensely annoying. I don't think she knew that I didn't like her. I don't think she actually 'got me' at all. She would summarise things I said completely having missed the point. As she said the session was about establishing rapport I'm wondering if carrying on with the sessions is going to be of any value at all.

So,

Is rapport with the person important to the process or do I just tolerate her for the remaining sessions?

Thanks

  • I would say yes, continue, but also continue to correct her if you feel she's missing the point, actually tell her you felt misunderstood at your next session.

Why do you think rapport failed and why didn't you like her?

  • I probably sound unreasonable but she's very chaotic. One of the things I found infuriating is she'd listen then pause, make this very annoying "mmm mmm" sound putting her head to one side as though thinking and then after a big pause say something really obvious. But she'd say like it was the most original and inspiring thought ever to have been thought. She'd also summarise things I'd said but miss the crucial point.
