question for moderators: right to appeal

Is it now the polocy of this forums moderation to remove posts (for what ever reasion) with out informing the poster of the removal and offering them the chance to appeal?

This is not a hypothetical question. Several of my posts in the thread ( https://community.autism.org.uk/f/health-and-wellbeing/42568/the-bill-has-passed-now-onto-the-hol) appear to have dissapeared. No note apeared forum notification system. None of the usual options or links to appeal removal. As you know the forums rules give users the right to appeal. Spicificly:

"You have the right to appeal a decision by our moderation team to edit or delete your content or to place your account under pre-moderation. We recognise that other users or our moderation team can sometimes misinterpret written content.  

If your post is removed and you believe this was an error or an unfair decision, you will be notified via your account’s Live Alert system when our moderation team has flagged your post. To access your Live Alerts, select the lightning bolt at the top right-hand corner. If you click on the notification you receive, it will direct you to a page where you can submit your appeal."
Yet in this case the removal of comments without a notification on the system means it can not be appealed through the usual chanels. So I'm asking moderators for clarification. Is the right to appeal removal of comments no longer automatic and universal?

    It became apparent to me a few months ago that the personable, accommodating, human, wise and sustaining moderation policies (and quite thoughtful and compassionate implementation of those policies) had been successfully usurped (or over-written) by a newfangled partisan approach that "conveniently" had the added unassailable sense of....."well, it could now be these nameless, uncontrollable 3rd parties WOT DONE IT.......so you can't blame us anyway....we are just powerless servants who simply do our best." 

    "Reasonable adjustments and allowances" for the SPECTRUM of "autistic perceptions and realities that some of our kin endure" were (perhaps?) sacrificed at the alter of enforced standardisation and replaced with a sense of "enforced reasonableness" along with the "insta-appearance" of the trend to just post endless "quoting of rules and somewhat "detached" advice and guidance," akin to what AI / machine learning could provide.  Is that what autistic people come to a community forum for?

    When I can stomach the heartache, I do "look in" here, to see how the inevitable march of this evolutionary progress/imposition  is "playing out."

    I would LOVE to share my perceptions and observations of what I can see has happened.........but equally perceive that it would be unwise, unsafe, unhelpful, unwelcome and frankly pointless to elucidate my opinion on such matters.  That fact alone, tells me all I need to know!

    I hope your world and spirit remain intact sir.  I fondly remember (although perhaps this is a bit niche) the endlessly thoughtful, impassioned,  educative and informative threads that you slugged out with dear Bees!  I suspect that this intellectual thanks to you both would be deemed "ableist" here these days.  In the words of a famous meme (yes - I do keep up.....albeit perhaps 15 years behind) = "Ain't nobody got time for that _ _ _ _!"

  • Long story short. Moderators claim they don't know why notifications didn't appear for the removals. They also claim only two posts of mine were removed which I think is pretty clearly not the case. I'm inclined to chalk this up to incompetence. Not necessarily the moderators incompetence but maybe the site developers. It's clear the moderation system doesn't work the way the moderation team thinks it does. I mean its questionable to me if you can really say the moderation system works at all.

    I've been on the forum for quite a few years now and I don't recall there ever being a "right to appeal" and the mods are rarely transparent when they take action.

    I guess the site is not a democracy so it is very much their site, their rules and if they opt to make decisions on the suitability then it is tough luck for the poster.

    Bunny is right about there being one point of escalation but based on years of observing (and sometimes experiencing) the actions taken by the mods, I would not expect them to write to you and explain their actions on every pulled post.

    This is probably down to lack of time / resource which is unlikely to change, so I would advise to learn to live with it.

    I'm not having a go at you or the mods - just explaining how I see the situation and the chances of changing it.
