I feel more relieved and at peace with myself.
I feel more relieved and at peace with myself.
I felt like that too, it felt so good to actually be able to lable it, I can have power with something I can name. I also somewhat spitefully enjoyed telling an ex who was always going on at me for being weird, that I really couldn't help it, this is officially how I am, but not an excuse. it shut him up which was good.
Thankyou.
Once I'd seriously considered the possibility 3 months ago I was starting to act as though it was reasonably likely.
I still thought they'd say no as I thought I did too well on the frog book. But they told me today they thought it likely after the initial discussion, before we even got to any of the formal stuff. It was just following the process.
So I wobbled a little but my most of the impact has already been considered. They said I might like to go and research it a bit now, but I said it's all I have been looking at for months. I tried to disprove it but kept finding more evidence.
I just got the formal confirmation today.
Congratulations, also!
Congratulations on your diagnosis and welcome to the community!

I'll also just mention a couple of books that helped me immediately after being diagnosed.
Therapy (or counselling) is often recommended for your GP to arrange. In anticipation of that, you might find it helpful to borrow or buy this book. It discusses various types of therapy and counselling, together with advice on choosing the right therapist or counsellor - all from an autistic person's viewpoint:
The Autistic Survival Guide to Therapy
And this book enabled me to make some immediate, helpful changes:
Self-Care for Autistic People: 100+ Ways to Recharge, De-Stress, and Unmask!
I got diagnosed with autism last year when aged 24. Glad you feel better with your diagnosis
