PIP renewal - when?

Does anyone know at what point people are contacted to go through the process of trying to renew their Personal Independence Payment?  Is it some months or weeks  before it runs out? And what do they do now - do they do in person interviews - or over the phone? Do they still visit people at home, or do you have to go somewhere for an appointment? If anyone has any helpful info about this I’d really appreciate you sharing it - because it’s been ages since my son last went through this (and we all found it incredibly stressful obviously). We’d like to know what to expect if possible. Thanks :)

  • The Department for Work and Pensions usually contacts people about 6 months before a fixed-term PIP award is due to end. This gives time to complete the reassessment process before the current award runs out.

If the end date is approaching and your son hasn’t been contacted by 3 months before, it’s worth calling them to check.
