PIP renewal - when?

Does anyone know at what point people are contacted to go through the process of trying to renew their Personal Independence Payment?  Is it some months or weeks  before it runs out? And what do they do now - do they do in person interviews - or over the phone? Do they still visit people at home, or do you have to go somewhere for an appointment? If anyone has any helpful info about this I’d really appreciate you sharing it - because it’s been ages since my son last went through this (and we all found it incredibly stressful obviously). We’d like to know what to expect if possible. Thanks :)

  • The letter that you received when your PIP claim was approved explains when your claim is due to end, and if it will be reviewed. In terms of the usual timing for this, Turn2us explains that:

"The DWP will usually start to review your claim one year before your award ends.

When the DWP reviews your claim, they send you a letter with a PIP review form. The DWP gives you 4 weeks to fill in the form and send it back. Ask the DWP for more time if you need it." (continues....)

  • Hi Bunny - thanks so much for this information. I had no idea they could be contacting us a whole year before it ends - I am glad you have prepared me for that! I feel quite sick when letters like that turn up - we find it all so intimidating. This is why I’m trying to get us prepared for facing it by knowing what might happen. Thank you for your help.
