Sims 4 discussion thread

I have seen people posting that they enjoy playing Sims, so I thought I'd start a discussion thread.

Last year I started a project to build lots of different homes and buildings in Sims 4 - I had a few months break during the winter, and I re-started it a couple of months ago. I've finished building now and I'm doing a play through. I replaced most of the pre made homes and households and made a lot more. I built homes in various designs including Art Deco, Gothic, a 1960s bungalow, a Christmas themed cottage, a house boat, a lighthouse, and a space shuttle style home. I built restaurants including 50s style diners, a cowboy saloon one, a star wars themed one, a Chinese restaurant, a Japanese one and an Indian one in the shape of the Taj Mahal. I also built several museums, including a science & technology museum, a transport museum, a natural history museum (in the shape of an elephant), one in a castle, a space exhibition on top of an apartment block, and a sea life centre with an aquarium section.

I also created lots of new sims to populate the homes I built, and as I don't like the  "townies" the game generates I've been editing them in household management and changing their names. I like to choose names to suit characters or that have a theme, so the residents Oasis Springs are all aliens and have space related names, most residents in Sulani are mermaids and have sea related names, many city residents have City names (such as Vienna Street)  I renamed the local mail carriers Angel Messenger and Hermes Letterman, and my sim household employs a gardener called Heather Gardener.

The packs I have are:

Best: Dream home decorator (great furniture, best interactive career) Tiny Living (great lot perks) Island Living (the most beautiful, has mermaids, and the island life aspiration stops Sims getting tense) Dine Out (I love building restaurants!) City living, Journey to Batuu (just for the droids & lightsabres)

Ok: Home chef hustle, Nifty Knitting, Spa Day, Horse Ranch, Crystal Creations, Vintage Glamour, Cottage Living, Discover University (not for degrees, only like the robot building)

Least favourite: Vampires, Get to work, Cats & dogs, Snowy escape, Laundry Day, Eco Lifestyle

  • My favs are the eoc friendly, dining out, for rent, island living, when ever a new pack comes out I start a new SIM!

  • Thank you Relaxed️

  • I'm sorry I don't understand - where is this guide? Or are you asking me to provide one?

  • Sims 4 is available for games consoles and PC/laptop.

  • I haven’t played it yet but I have looked into it and looks really good! Probably silly question but is that for the phone or laptop or a game console or something?

  • I had Sims 4 and played it for a little bit. I only really played it to have fun with customising characters

  • The reason I moved to Xbox was because I couldn't afford a good gaming PC (mine was the cheapest I could find - it cost £750 around eight years ago) and I don't have the skills to upgrade a PC. Sims worked ok on it, but I was unable to run some of the other games I wanted to play. Xbox is cheaper and simpler. I have had a lot of time to get used to the controller though, as I changed to Xbox 6 years ago.

Over the past week I've been playing a Sim called Eden. Usually I like to get my Sims rich and then build them a mansion, but for this story I decided that I wanted to make her happy and fulfilled without lots of money or a big house. So I made some rules - she couldn't have more than 10k in the bank, had to live in a house worth under 50k, and had to complete 10 aspirations.

Her traits are good, cheerful and self assured, and the good trait means she enjoys donating to charity.

I built a tiny starter house for her, which left some funds in the bank for initial bills, and started her working on the gardening and knitting skills to get stuff to sell. Her first aspiration was friend of the world, so she met lots of other Sims and started a romantic relationship with one of them. The 10 aspirations I chose for her were:

    Popularity: Friend of the world
    Nature: Freelance botanist
    Creativity: Lady of the knits
    Food: Appliance Wiz
    Star Wars: Hope vs order
    Knowledge: Nerd brain
    Location: Mt Korembi sightseer
    Athletic: Bodybuilder
    Wellness: Zen Guru
    Love: Soul mate.

I've completed all of them now except soul mate, but I'm on the last stage of that one as she married her boyfriend Brooklyn who she met earlier in the game.

I don't have any ideas for another story at the moment, so I might take a break when this one is completed. I haven't had a look at the new pack yet, but I usually wait until they've been out for a while and are in a sale.

  • That's so cool, thank you for sharing.

May I ask why you moved to a console? I moved to the Xbox because I found my gaming laptop constantly wanted updating and glitches would make it harder to use and I found all the settings a bit overwhelming.

That's cool you've got used to the controller. I understand you can use a mouse and keyboard with the Xbox console too.

    Yes that's good fun!

It's a bit frustrating as we're an update behind PC players for The Sims 4, but apparently it will be released next week.

I used to buy every single pack but since they've started doing kits I've held off a bit. I do have all the EPs though, game packs and stuff packs. Just not many kits.

Have you managed to play much over the weekend? Slight smile

  • The game helps satisfy my creative urges - in the form of architecture, interior design, hair & fashion and story writing. So I enjoy BB, CAS and live play.

I also started playing Sims 4 on a PC and later moved onto the Xbox console. I did find building a bit awkward at first using a controller after being used to a mouse.

The game helps with creating stories by throwing in some random elements, like a Sim getting abducted by aliens or a fire happening at home or in an active work place. I also use the aspirations to help plan the stories as they give structured goals.

I have also played Disney Dreamlight Valley - it was ok, but not as fulfilling as Sims for me.

What packs do you have for Sims 4?

  • I love playing The Sims 4 but have transitioned to console from PC. I have the game and EPs but am just trying to get used to the different controls. I have been focussing on Disney Dreamlight Valley a lot too which is another similar game.

Sounds like you're really good at creating interesting stories and enjoy build and buy mode as much as live mode too? I know a lot of players stick to just BB mode, CAS or live play.

  • Update - I'm still playing Sims 4 and I've just finished playing a rags to riches story with a Sim called Faith, where I started her with just a plot of land, a shed containing a toilet and sink and a tent to sleep in, and no funds. She finished with a £200k house and over half a million in the bank. I completed the Master Maker, Nectar maker, Mount Korembi sightseer, Inner peace and Championship rider aspirations for the first time, and she visited the alien planet of Sixam after reaching the top of the scientist career and building a wormhole generator.

Faith was.one of the most unlucky Sims I've ever played. She got killed in her garden by a falling meteor and I had to use my God powers to revive her (exiting without saving & reloading) and later she almost died in a fire at the laboratory where she was working. She was also unlucky in love - found a partner after dating many candidates but then got suspicious he was cheating and broke up.with him. So I created her the perfect partner called Theo (the name means gift from God) and they married after a whirlwind romance. I do like a happy ending

So, if any Simmers are actually reading this - what aspirations are you planning to do? What are your favourite ones? What stories are you playing?

  • I moved Eve & Ryan into their new house in Sulani last night - it's a big two storey home with a large basement and a swimming pool in the garden, and the cost came out at just over £350k which allowed them to complete the mansion baron aspiration.

At the moment I'm trying to complete aspirations that I haven't done before - on this play through I completed the Lady of the knits, Appliance wiz and Country caretaker aspirations which I haven't done previously.

I also love rags to riches stories. I think for my next story I'll try the actual rags to riches start, where you begin with no funds at all.

What's happening in your Sims world? What plans do you have?

  • That’s some adventure you’ve had with your Sims. I like how Eve had a sort of rags to riches life, starting so small and then ended up a really good artist making the big bucks. I love these sorts of stories in Sims, it's fun seeing which way life takes them, and what will happen.

I love the name you gave Ace Letts. That's a cool pun for his name too, shame he wasn't so good when it came to resolving Eve's problems though!

Eve and Ryan sound like the perfect couple! It's so sweet how they instantly hit it off and were such a nice match for one another. I like it when Sims share similar traits, like they were truly meant to be together. I always find it crazy when a Sim meets another Sim and they have nothing in common, or don't really get on, but somehow they click and end up married...

    Lol! Laughing

It's sweet but a bit crazy at the same time. But that's Sims 4, unpredictable but it's cool because the craziness just makes it interesting.

The unexpected twists and turns in Sims 4 is what makes it such a fun game for me! It’s so random but amazing, like Ryan getting pregnant after being abducted by aliens lol. I wonder if Eve and Ryan will ever travel to Sixam? He might meet his son again!

Looking forward to hearing about your next Sims next adventure. Do you have anything specific you want to do for your next Sims adventure? Like playing an occult or moving to a different world?

  • Thanks Lauren, it's interesting to find out what others do in Sims 4. Well done for uploading the pictures - I can't do that, as I play on an Xbox and post on here using my Kindle tablet.

I've been playing a Sim couple recently. I started with a female Sim, Eve Adams, and moved her into the cheapest, shabbiest city apartment. She enjoyed learning to knit and use her food processor to prep food for meals and she tried selling pizzas she made at a stall in the city square, not very successfully unfortunately. She wasn't very happy with her apartment due to noisy neighbours and mice and cockroach infestations. She complained to her Landlord, a guy called Ace Letts (yes, I renamed him) but although he liked to spend time chatting with Eve he wasn't so Ace at getting problems resolved!

So Eve moved to a brand new micro home just built in the town of Newcrest. Although the house was tiny, she had a big plot of land on which she grew vegetables, herbs & fruit. She felt really happy here and improved her knitting and cooking skills, and the neighbours all bought her pizzas and waffles every time she set up her stall. She also sold lots of knitted items online.

On a return trip to the city to visit her old neighbours, she met the guy who had moved into her old apartment. His name was Ryan Fontaine and he was creative and an art lover, just like Eve, plus handsome and intelligent, and they immediately started dating. Ryan crafted an engagement ring for her and soon after they were married. They spent their honeymoon on the tropical island of Sulani, where they ate coconuts, found beautiful shells, met new friends, had a party on the beach and drank the local Cava.

Since then Eve and Ryan have both learned to paint and sell pictures for lots of dosh. Ryan tried out the writer, painter & Culinary careers before settling on the engineer one. He also built a rocket ship in his spare time. Eve tried the decorator and culinary careers before settling into the painter one and she is now a renowned artist. Their gardener Heather has helped maintain Eve's garden so they always have fresh fruit and vegetables, and Eve makes a great Apple pie (she won first prize for one at the village fair)

They've had lots of adventures, including a vacation at mount Korembi, where unfortunately Ryan wasn't allowed to ski or go snowboarding as he was pregnant from being abducted by aliens shortly before. The alien baby arrived just after their return home, and as they didn't feel ready to be parents he sent it to its home planet of Sixam.

They are very wealthy now and are having a huge house built in Sulani to move to. After that I think I'll leave them to get on with their lives and start a new story with a new sim.

    Watch this space...

  • Your Sims 4 project sounds incredible! I'd love to do something like that, must take a lot of time but I imagine it's worth it. I sometimes remove premades and add in my own Sims but I've never literally rebuilt an entire world like you have. It must be a fun venture! I hope you continue enjoying your project.

In my game lately I've been playing as Charlene and Emily, a MerSim and an alien. They're living in the sun on the tropical islands and I've really enjoyed playing as them.

    Some pics from my game:

This is Emily's Sim disguise which she uses to make out she's a normal Sim. Lol I think she looks really funny, I gave her BIG eyes so she stands out a bit as I imagine a real alien would make a disguise like that.

    And this is Charlene

I really enjoy playing my game as these two Sims. They have fun personalities and are making the best of life and making sure every day is a PAR-TAY day!!!!

I’m also playing a lovely game where there are two Sims who are happily married, they are elder Sims now and I’ve basically watched them grow old together and it’s really sweet. I’ve actually written a song about them, and I am hoping to make a music video as they are the first Sims I made and played with.

    Slight smile

  • Thanks for your reply.

I have copious notes on my tablet to keep track of everything in my game, with the names of all the Sims I've made and notes on which aspirations I have done with my current household and what I might do next. I have a household with only 2 Sims in (a couple) as I get overwhelmed if there are too many.

Are businesses & hobbies, for rent and werewolves packs good? They didn't particularly appeal to me.

I had realm of magic, outdoor retreat, Get Famous, Strangerville and Jungle Adventure when I used to play on a PC. When I changed to playing on an Xbox I had to start again and I didn't buy them again.

  • Hello. I’m a longtime fan of the Sims 4. It’s one of my fave games to play.

Your Sims 4 project sounds so exciting!!! You must have put a lot of time and effort in to doing all of that. Do you keep journals of the Sims you make? I do this, but I may be the only one lol. I can understand why you delete the townies and make your own Sims to populate the world. I do that too. The townies are always a bit meh IMO, it’s nice to be able to create your own isn’t it? I like to make new houses for the Sims as well. I find a lot of the prebuilds are a bit rank so I like to demolish those and start from scratch. In one of my games I have a residential estate, like proper British homes.

I like creating Sims and playing out stories, sometimes I’ll empty out the towns and go from scratch and make it my own little world. I love doing that, it makes it feel like I’ve made a TV series or movie and everyone is playing out their own little part.

I like playing generations, creating a family and then playing through them and watching the families evolve and grow as they go through their lives. I normally play as one Sim and let the others have high free will so all the decisions are their own. In my most recent generations game save I’m on to my 3rd generation with the “Short” family. Very exciting as I’ve never played a generation this long before.

And I like to combine my love of reading and writing with the Sims 4 where I make Sims and use them as characters in my fiction stories. I take screenshots and use them as illustrations for my writing.

These are my fave ways of playing the Sims 4.
