Sims 4 discussion thread

I have seen people posting that they enjoy playing Sims, so I thought I'd start a discussion thread.

Last year I started a project to build lots of different homes and buildings in Sims 4 - I had a few months break during the winter, and I re-started it a couple of months ago. I've finished building now and I'm doing a play through. I replaced most of the pre made homes and households and made a lot more. I built homes in various designs including Art Deco, Gothic, a 1960s bungalow, a Christmas themed cottage, a house boat, a lighthouse, and a space shuttle style home. I built restaurants including 50s style diners, a cowboy saloon one, a star wars themed one, a Chinese restaurant, a Japanese one and an Indian one in the shape of the Taj Mahal. I also built several museums, including a science & technology museum, a transport museum, a natural history museum (in the shape of an elephant), one in a castle, a space exhibition on top of an apartment block, and a sea life centre with an aquarium section.

I also created lots of new sims to populate the homes I built, and as I don't like the  "townies" the game generates I've been editing them in household management and changing their names. I like to choose names to suit characters or that have a theme, so the residents Oasis Springs are all aliens and have space related names, most residents in Sulani are mermaids and have sea related names, many city residents have City names (such as Vienna Street)  I renamed the local mail carriers Angel Messenger and Hermes Letterman, and my sim household employs a gardener called Heather Gardener.

The packs I have are:

Best: Dream home decorator (great furniture, best interactive career) Tiny Living (great lot perks) Island Living (the most beautiful, has mermaids, and the island life aspiration stops Sims getting tense) Dine Out (I love building restaurants!) City living, Journey to Batuu (just for the droids & lightsabres)

Ok: Home chef hustle, Nifty Knitting, Spa Day, Horse Ranch, Crystal Creations, Vintage Glamour, Cottage Living, Discover University (not for degrees, only like the robot building)

Least favourite: Vampires, Get to work, Cats & dogs, Snowy escape, Laundry Day, Eco Lifestyle

  • I'm enjoying the building and decorating, as that's my favourite part of Sims 4. I found out by looking at guides for the businesses and hobbies pack that you can choose up to 5 activities for each business, so Ive planned them to incorporate most of the activities Sims can do in them. So for example the wellness centre will be Do spa activities, do yoga, meditate, the farm zoo will be play with pets, care for animals, drink coffee, browse & buy items, and so on.

How do you post pictures on here? Do you play on a PC?

  • Those pictures were great your sim looks lovely! Ive literally just given my sim a bungalow and made it SpongeBob themed lol. She also has a SpongeBob t shirt!

  • Wait what? It’s actually real? The sims can  have kids with the grim reaper?! Omg I thought they were mods lol! I have so got to check that out! I will have to watch videos for now I guess lol! I actually thought the grim reaper was a mod at first lol so it’s my mission to keep my sims alive as long as possible lol! But the ghost sims look fun too!

  • In the life and death pack you can work as a grim reaper Smiley and you get to meet him and can befriend him. Since that pack you can have a baby with him too. I haven't had my Sims do that with him yet though lol!

  • Wow you've done a lot with that pack. Way more than me, I own it but I haven't even used that side of it yet lol!

    How are you finding it?

Your Star Wars themed bar sounds fun. I always wanted to make my own Star Wars bar! I'm a big Star Wars fan.

  • Finally got to do some Sims today!

Sometimes I do creative stories or challenges like legacies with my Sims but lately I’ve been playing as a solo Sim and just letting her go along with high free will on. So far it’s been a lot of fun and she’s mostly been good and made healthy life decisions lol! Grin

Lately she’s been staying inside enjoying her newly Spongebob decorated home but today she decided to get out into the cool fresh air. She did a little skiing which she seemed to really enjoy!

    Then

And then she burned some money lmao! Ironic really as she's not actually wealthy so that was a bit crazy but I geuss that's the Sims for you..

I hope the pictures weren't too much here.

    I'll add more soon!

  • I started playing at the beginning of September and been really enjoying it! I have quite a few expansion packs now actually (they had some amazing deals) and I love playing and building in the different areas.

I can’t get over how lifelike the grim reaper is though lol!

  • It's been a while since I posted on this thread as I spent a few months playing other games, but I've now returned to Sims 4 as I've just got the businesses and hobbies pack. It'll probably be more of a monologue than a discussion, but hopefully someone who also plays may find it of interest.

I haven't started any game play of businesses yet, I just thought I'd share what I'm building ready for going into gameplay. I couldn't  choose one business as there are so many choices, so I've decided to build 12 homes with businesses attached and create 12 Sim business owners to run them and I'll do rotational play, playing them all in turn.

The businesses I have created so far (and the names of their owners) are:

    Zen wellness centre (Paxton Hale)

Star wars themed bar (Rigel Moon - an alien)

Aesthetic Inspirations Arts centre (Priti Arti)

Hello Kitty Tea house - a Japanese cat cafe (Kiti Konnichiwa)

A farm petting zoo with cafe & gift shop (Dale Farmer)

Blue Lagoon beach club - with beach bar, grill & boats (Delphine Lagoon - a mermaid)

The others that I'm going to build are:

The Inferno live entertainment venue  (Lucian Dante - a vampire)

Spin in A Yarn creations - knitting & cross stitch creation & sales (Pearl Cross)

DeVine Nectar Vinyard  - nectar making & tasting (Vin Leblanc)

Top Dogs Country club - a place to drink, read & play table tennis, cards & chess (Brittany Pointer)

Fire & Glow pottery & gems - pottery & jewellery making studio & sales (Ruby Potter)

The Data Den - club to play video games, Program, Build robots. (Cal Web)

If you have the businesses & hobbies pack, what businesses have you created? How did it play out? And if you haven't bought it yet, are you interested in it and what stories are you currently playing?

  • My favs are the eoc friendly, dining out, for rent, island living, when ever a new pack comes out I start a new SIM!

  • I'm sorry I don't understand - where is this guide? Or are you asking me to provide one?

  • Sims 4 is available for games consoles and PC/laptop.

  • I haven’t played it yet but I have looked into it and looks really good! Probably silly question but is that for the phone or laptop or a game console or something?

  • I had Sims 4 and played it for a little bit. I only really played it to have fun with customising characters

  • The reason I moved to Xbox was because I couldn't afford a good gaming PC (mine was the cheapest I could find - it cost £750 around eight years ago) and I don't have the skills to upgrade a PC. Sims worked ok on it, but I was unable to run some of the other games I wanted to play. Xbox is cheaper and simpler. I have had a lot of time to get used to the controller though, as I changed to Xbox 6 years ago.

Over the past week I've been playing a Sim called Eden. Usually I like to get my Sims rich and then build them a mansion, but for this story I decided that I wanted to make her happy and fulfilled without lots of money or a big house. So I made some rules - she couldn't have more than 10k in the bank, had to live in a house worth under 50k, and had to complete 10 aspirations.

Her traits are good, cheerful and self assured, and the good trait means she enjoys donating to charity.

I built a tiny starter house for her, which left some funds in the bank for initial bills, and started her working on the gardening and knitting skills to get stuff to sell. Her first aspiration was friend of the world, so she met lots of other Sims and started a romantic relationship with one of them. The 10 aspirations I chose for her were:

    Popularity: Friend of the world
    Nature: Freelance botanist
    Creativity: Lady of the knits
    Food: Appliance Wiz
    Star Wars: Hope vs order
    Knowledge: Nerd brain
    Location: Mt Korembi sightseer
    Athletic: Bodybuilder
    Wellness: Zen Guru
    Love: Soul mate.

I've completed all of them now except soul mate, but I'm on the last stage of that one as she married her boyfriend Brooklyn who she met earlier in the game.

I don't have any ideas for another story at the moment, so I might take a break when this one is completed. I haven't had a look at the new pack yet, but I usually wait until they've been out for a while and are in a sale.

  • That's so cool, thank you for sharing.

May I ask why you moved to a console? I moved to the Xbox because I found my gaming laptop constantly wanted updating and glitches would make it harder to use and I found all the settings a bit overwhelming.

That's cool you've got used to the controller. I understand you can use a mouse and keyboard with the Xbox console too.

    Yes that's good fun!

It's a bit frustrating as we're an update behind PC players for The Sims 4, but apparently it will be released next week.

I used to buy every single pack but since they've started doing kits I've held off a bit. I do have all the EPs though, game packs and stuff packs. Just not many kits.

Have you managed to play much over the weekend? Slight smile

  • The game helps satisfy my creative urges - in the form of architecture, interior design, hair & fashion and story writing. So I enjoy BB, CAS and live play.

I also started playing Sims 4 on a PC and later moved onto the Xbox console. I did find building a bit awkward at first using a controller after being used to a mouse.

The game helps with creating stories by throwing in some random elements, like a Sim getting abducted by aliens or a fire happening at home or in an active work place. I also use the aspirations to help plan the stories as they give structured goals.

I have also played Disney Dreamlight Valley - it was ok, but not as fulfilling as Sims for me.

What packs do you have for Sims 4?

  • I love playing The Sims 4 but have transitioned to console from PC. I have the game and EPs but am just trying to get used to the different controls. I have been focussing on Disney Dreamlight Valley a lot too which is another similar game.

Sounds like you're really good at creating interesting stories and enjoy build and buy mode as much as live mode too? I know a lot of players stick to just BB mode, CAS or live play.

  • Update - I'm still playing Sims 4 and I've just finished playing a rags to riches story with a Sim called Faith, where I started her with just a plot of land, a shed containing a toilet and sink and a tent to sleep in, and no funds. She finished with a £200k house and over half a million in the bank. I completed the Master Maker, Nectar maker, Mount Korembi sightseer, Inner peace and Championship rider aspirations for the first time, and she visited the alien planet of Sixam after reaching the top of the scientist career and building a wormhole generator.

Faith was.one of the most unlucky Sims I've ever played. She got killed in her garden by a falling meteor and I had to use my God powers to revive her (exiting without saving & reloading) and later she almost died in a fire at the laboratory where she was working. She was also unlucky in love - found a partner after dating many candidates but then got suspicious he was cheating and broke up.with him. So I created her the perfect partner called Theo (the name means gift from God) and they married after a whirlwind romance. I do like a happy ending

So, if any Simmers are actually reading this - what aspirations are you planning to do? What are your favourite ones? What stories are you playing?

  • I moved Eve & Ryan into their new house in Sulani last night - it's a big two storey home with a large basement and a swimming pool in the garden, and the cost came out at just over £350k which allowed them to complete the mansion baron aspiration.

At the moment I'm trying to complete aspirations that I haven't done before - on this play through I completed the Lady of the knits, Appliance wiz and Country caretaker aspirations which I haven't done previously.

I also love rags to riches stories. I think for my next story I'll try the actual rags to riches start, where you begin with no funds at all.

What's happening in your Sims world? What plans do you have?
