PIP Confusion

Hello

I am currently on LCWRA formerly ESA and if these government changes get through we will all have to apply for PIP.

My question is is the assessment for LCWRA and PIP the same test with the same-ish questions.

I am asking as am thinking of applying for PIP at some point because well we will all have to eventually but i am worried that the test does not assess for someone of my needs.

I am able to survive off the LCWRA money that i get and need no mobility aids and all my needs are 'mental' so how does one pass a PIP assessment if you are physically functional.

Part of the Autism i have is i struggle to explain my world and how it affects me, when asked to explain about myself I go blank and cannot explain hat is happening (not sure if there is a name for this). I also will not have much supporting information as i rarely see my doctor.

What questions did people get points on?

As i write this my mind has gone blank again so will leave it there.. unless something pops back

  • Arbitrary research suggests that the threshold for claiming PIP is much higher than for being awarded LCWRA.   You might like to bear that in mind.

My understanding, from reading the proposals - is that the LCWRA award may be lowered, but that might even be for first time claimants.  It certainly wouldn't be in the middle of an award.

It is generally considered that getting the Limited Capability for Work and Work-Related Activity (LCWRA) element of Universal Credit is easier than getting Personal Independence Payment (PIP).  This is because LCWRA focuses on a person's ability to work, while PIP assesses their ability to perform daily living tasks and mobility.

I'd speculate that if you were already in receipt of PIP then you'd probably (but not certainly) find yourself qualifying for LCWRA if you applied, but not so if it were the other way about.  However - receipt of one benefit does not mean you'd automatically get the other - even if it might be taken into consideration.

I think you are speculating about changes that still might not happen - and even if they do, your payments may not be reduced.  I understand that it is a worry, but please try to focus on things you can control rather than things you can't.

  • Thank you thats a bit more clear..

I am still a bit confused because i thought they are scrapping LCWRA and people who are disabled would have to apply for PIP to keep their award and i thought this was not being consulted on am I wrong?

Thanks for the info Slight smile
