Right to Choose 2nd Opinion

Hi. Does anyone know if you can get a 2nd opinion via right to choose in England. GP says 2nd opinions are excluded via right to choose but can't find anything online. The NHS Choice framework says you have the right to a second opinion but doesn't mention right to choose. Thanks

  • Hi and welcome to the community.

One of the various Right to Choose providers advises as follows on their website, in respect of autism assessments:

"Q: I have had an assessment and have not been diagnosed with ASD. I want a second opinion. Can I use RTC?

A: You can seek a second opinion through Right to Choose, but if you have previously been assessed by a different provider, we will require your GP to provide us with the previous report and related correspondence.

However, please note that if your assessment was performed by Psychiatry UK, we cannot offer you a second opinion under RTC through our service."

  • Yes I read this which is why I thought a 2nd opinion was an option but GP says not.
