Autism and Attachments

HI,

im looking into Autism and Attachments, in particular, those attachments to people. From my own personal experience, ( excluding my family), i have a "special" attachment to my only friend. i constantly think about them, text them 2 / 3 times a day asking and wondering if they're OK. (i know that they have their own life and their own thing(s) to do like work etc.) i also know its not "healthy" either. i spoke to my friend (who sadly passed away in August 2023) about this and (she had Borderline Personality Disorder) and she said that she understands where I’m coming too. my question is this: is this particular attachment an Autism trait/"thing" or is it just me? and if it is related to autism, then why isn’t it talked about more often?

  • It might be for some autistic people but if it is then it's not something I have. I try to get more attached to people, especially those around me, but I struggle being with people. I spend most of my time on my own as being with others causes a lot of anxiety. Like A I have to force myself and put in a lot of effort to stay around people and keep in touch with them.
