Late autism diagnosis: it’s a relief, but who’s behind the mask?

'By the time an adult learns they’re autistic, they have often been covering up for years. A period of self-discovery awaits

Realising that you are autistic as an adult can bring about a lot of feelings: relief to finally have answers; anger that it has taken so long; regret about what might have been if you’d known earlier. What also awaits, for many, is confusion.'

  • So much relatable stuff in there, I'm shocked at how much more I realise is masking every day since I was diagnosed, opinions, behaviour, even when I'm alone I still do it.

Spikeymark makes a good point that it's also useful at times too, I wouldn't have my job and house etc. if I hadn't used masking to avoid me being thrown to one side a lot. But it's exhausting too.
