Autistic parent challenges

I'm a single parent of a two year old, I really struggle to cope with the loud noise associated with his tantrums. I find it totally overwhelming.

Do any parents have any advice on how I can manage?

  • Just wanted to say that I am also a parent so I understand where you're coming from. It does get easier as they get older, but I can imagine, as a single parent, it can be a challenge. I'm sure you're doing an amazing job, the tantrums shouldn't last forever, or be as intense. That said, my daughter still has them sometimes, but I tend to treat them as a meltdown, treat her as I would want to be treated. I let her have them, then wait for her come to talk to me if/when she is ready. Sometimes it just goes unsaid, she just wants to realise something, especially after a routine change at school. She hasn't been diagnosed as autistic but I suspect she is.
