WTAF. Number is NOT happy. I will cope, any/which/way.....

WTAF.  Number is NOT happy.  I will cope, any/which/way.......because that is what I have ALWAYS been forced to endure - all my life.

I will simply leave this forum, if that is what seems prudent/logical for me to do.  I am alone, and always have been.   I will cope, I always have done.

But boy, do I feel SERIOUSLY LET DOWN !!!!

I had hoped that the people who run/manage this place would be more capable and/or respectful of our "special" cohort - and my life? Who commissioned these “people” who have done the tech? Were they vetted? Is ANYONE in charge of anything at the moment? Does anyone have any respect for the members here……many of whom HATE tech?   Were these factors taken into account?

I worry about the "silent majority" in these situations.  I suspect that MANY, MANY worthy autistic folk will be lost from this place because of the inept manner in which this 'changeover' from the 'old' forum to the 'new' forum has been managed and implemented.  I'm not talking out of the top of my hat here.....I have good evidential reasons for saying these things.

This is NOT acceptable.  Harm has been done.......and continues to be done at this time of writing……to precisely the type of folk who SHOULD be here and contributing at this time.

I am neither a militant, nor an unreasonable bloke............but I DO HAVE LIMITATIONS.

Someone, frankly, is not worthy of their payday for this "transitional period." [thus excusing our mainly WONDERFUL mods from this criticism.]

I am not averse to shine transparency on this (FUBAR) situation, as I see/experience it.  The following screenshot, is MY experience of the process that we are supposed to follow, which I include for reasons of transparency and clarity (as shown below as the first post to this thread – assuming that will work?)

PLEASE sort this/your SO…….you have my email if you wish to contact me directly and promptly.

  • It's the likes of you that help make it worthwhile.

I'm very happy to see you back.....and so say all of us!

  • Glad you made it back Number (no longer 0!) Slight smile

  • Welcome back Number! Slight smile

See you when you're feeling more positive. Sends positive vibes your way.

  • Against the odds, via nonsensical methodologies and despite a "communications policy" and "implementation approach" that defies my sense of reasonableness for a cohort of users who are KNOWN to be autistic.

I remain a grump, so best that I lay very low for a while.

No one enjoys negativity - negative Numbers are confusing because up is down and down is up.

    Ttfn.

  • There is plenty of room!

    There is indeed Blush

It's nice to see you back.

    Heart eyes cat

  • Any Number is better than Zero.

    From brown-coloured darkness, into light.

    My experience suggests that;

EVERYONE MUST CHANGE THEIR PASSWORD IF THEY WANT TO GET BACK IN WITH THEIR NORMAL ACCOUNT, BUT IT IS OK TO SIMPLY RE-USE YOUR OLD PASSWORD WHEN YOU REACH THE SCREEN THAT ENABLES YOU TO RE-SET IT.

TO ACCESS THIS RE-SET SCREEN, YOU WILL NEED TO OPEN AN EMAIL THAT WILL BE SENT TO YOU BY NAS.

THE WAY THAT YOU CAN HAVE THAT EMAIL SENT TO YOU BY NAS, IS TO JUST PRETEND THAT YOU HAVE FORGOTTON YOUR PASSWORD, BY CLICKING ON THE "FORGOTTEN YOUR PASSWORD" AT THE NORMAL SIGN-IN SCREEN  AND THE PROCESS WILL START.

THERE IS NO NEED TO DIRECTLY CONTACT THE COMMUNITY MANAGER.

I BELIEVE THAT WE ONLY NEED TO RESET OUR PASSWORD ONCE, AND THEN THINGS ARE BACK TO THE "NEW NORMAL" WITH YOUR OLD ACCOUNT.

Perhaps this interpretation of the facts as I encountered them, may help someone else back on here.  There is plenty of room!

We landed on the moon in 1969 !

  • Please check that I'm wearing trousers before applying superglue to my chair.

This is not my preferred method of delicate hair removal - I'm in a right pickle now

    Grinning

  • Numbers are constant, and don't change.  Bah humbug. Grump.  Snarl.

Please check that I'm wearing trousers before applying superglue to my chair.

This is not my preferred method of delicate hair removal - I'm in a right pickle now !

  • The core of people that were present on this forum when we 1st joined haven't diminished that much I think.

It's not a permanent thing and will always change.

Several members who haven't posted for a long time returned this week (myself included).

You will have to stay because I've superglued you to your PC chair.

I'm going to try to drag one or two missing 'old' members back through the door by their hair.

I don't feel personally that the forum has diminished, but changed, as everything does in life.

  • There seems to have been a great deal of "going" from all age groups and very little "coming" in recent times, irrespective of the causes for this.  "Hollowed out" is the phrase that springs to mind, "diminished" is the word.

  • I suspect that forums are a bit 'old hat' these days and this is partly why people have left here

I agree with this - we are more used to having the information we want on a simple to access, logically laid out source as this is how we have grown up knowing the internet on general.

For some millenials and Gen Z they take all this for granted and information is always available anyway so they have turned to a more dynamic, consumeristic approach to this where the information is intended to entertain as much as anything.

This is why the likes of TikTok and Instagram Reels are so appealing to them - small, bite sized chunks of entertainment / education delivered in a constantly updating way so you always have the latest on hand.

Even with music the move is away from owning physical or downloaded albums and it is all streaming tracks now, often chosen by algorythm from a vast pool of options.

Most from this age group grew up with more information and accommodations for their autism so are better suited to coping with life anyway I believe. It is the older generations, often late diagnosed who get the most from this site so it feels the right format for them.

Just my views on the subject.

  • I think that young people come and go on here.

There tends to be a core of mainly older (30+) people who, for whatever reason, have settled into this forum for good or ill.

makes a good point in that respect in the thread below.

     RE: 48 hours without oxygen

I suspect that forums are a bit 'old hat' these days and this is partly why people have left here - to join in somewhere that suits them better in format as well as content.

  • I hope that you stay N - but if you leave, I dearly hope you return, as I have (4 times I think now).

Sometimes a break is what is required but at the time it feels like it's going to be permanent - stepping back completely helps a lot.

Remember there are people behind all of this interface machine thingy - people trying to make it work including the people trying to take part in the forum.

I agree that the whole thing seems to have been handled in a rather slack way but there is a temporary solution now where old members are rejoining with a password provided by NAS.

It's not perfect by it's getting us up and running again.

I for one would miss you very much if you weren't here - you are unique (we all are) but you are maybe slightly more unique Blush

  • Again, for the sake of transparency on these matters, I include a screenshot of my email to the community manager regarding current matters;
