Hyperlexia

I only learnt this word today. It so, so fits me. Learnt to read early - excellent reading and writing skills but find listening and talking really hard

Parents
  • I could read fluently when I started school at 4 but struggled enormously with speaking until I was about 7. I regard written English as my first language and spoken English as noises that I need to translate into words before understanding. I work as a writer and struggle to access services that insist on using spoken methods of communication instead of written, such as the NHS.
