His last words to his fans was "Ta-ra now" 

He was on top form in the whole show. so his sudden passing was shocking.

    Listened too, she was very upset, she did a good job. Garry Davies was all chocked up at the start of yesterdays Pick of the Pops. Wished they had left Steve in his Afternoon show they should never have axed it, because it helped him too as well as us. He had had personal loss, and it was not nice of the management to do that to him
