He called you negative and cynical, and you responded by calling him naive and trusting. Apologise for calling him that, and explain how you felt about being characterised as negative and cynical. It sounds like he interpreted your critical worldview as a cynical one, which then made him feel overwhelmed and upset. A lot of people are really anxious about the state of the world at the moment. If you are able to express your inquisitive and critical attitude in the context of an optimistic worldview, that might offer him some relief, and a way of connecting with each other about your shared worries about the way things are going.  For example "Yes, the company is only interested in profit, but that's because how companies are structured to operate, that doesn't mean that's how it always HAS to be, and it doesn't mean that all humans are inherently cynical, that's just how the social structures are set up right now my dude. They're not bad people, but in order to succeed in this particular context, they have to behave cynically"
