Since the writers strike in the USA finishes last year I have been waiting for all the series to come back, and they finally are, so I'm enjoying watching things like NCIS, FBI, Chicago Fire/Med/PD, SWAT, but I also watch The Floor (need a UK version of that gameshow) When I have caught up with the shows I have been researching Grey's anatomy from the beginning
Do you like history or creative writing. I am trying out writing sci fi stories, myself. Its exciting but also a bit frustrating as I dont really know the nuts and bolts.
History, yes. I am writing my 2nd book - which doesn't seem like a real thing to me, yet, there it is.
I can't write fiction - amazed by people who can!
Writing Sci-fi stories would be so cool!
I believe that in the original casting they had wanted to put Uhura as the captain but the network put the kibosh on it
Yeah, they weren't into that, by all accounts - I read that they thought it 'esoteric' to have a woman in a leadership role on the show.
That was then, I guess. Uhura was still an amazing role model imo.
I very much like the new strange new worlds as it balances the tone of TOS and our new worldview, whihc is significantly different than the one TOS was spawned from. I believe that in the original casting they had wanted to put Uhura as the captain but the network put the kibosh on it but gave her as central a role as they dared: it was the middle of a violent civil rights movement in the US at the time. I like watching old shows like this for the window into what the dominant social values were and how they changed.

I’ve just watched the two Walter Matthau and Jack Lemon films Grumpy and Grumpier Old Men, really funny and a brilliant performance by Burgess Meredith. AKA the original ‘Penguin’ in Batman.
My new film for this week is the original of ‘The Fog’ by John Carpenter, it has a young Jamie Lee Curtis in it.
Just also watched Some Mothers Do ‘ave ‘Em.
I enjoyed watching Meet Joe Black again last night on BBC3 (so is available on BBC iPlayer for a while now too) youtu.be/gTUVF61KQFY
Now watching TOS, I've seen some, but not all, before, now on S2.
Digitally remastered, looks great. I'm aware of how influential it's been on the genre, and it's pretty awesome imo, sometimes funny, some outdated attitudes, but mostly, as I understand it, at the behest of the studio.
It would have been amazing to have a female No.2 from the beginning, as originally envisioned - I'm glad to see her back in SNW (and not turned into a nurse )
I am watching The World's End. Great film.
That's one of my favourite series. I never liked the UK version from the get go.
I'm like that - watch loads and loads of TV, for no other reason than I just want to watch something. I do the same with movies, just go on a huge watch fest.
I watched the Top Gun movie last night.
Yes very. It's Rowan Atkinson, typical Mr Bean type humour
A classic "Klatu barada nikto"!
