As much as its always been spoken about as being an 'either you love it or hate it' situation and marmite has basically entered the English lexicon as the go to simile for that I have to disappoint and say... It's just okay, I'm completely neutral on it, I don't like or hate it. I generally don't have it but, I were offered it, I would eat it. I wouldn't seek it out.
The jar states its yeast extract, originally Guinness had to pay to get rid of the waste. Most teatime favourites were low cost. My childhood hate was the old mug of ‘dripping’ in the fridge, it always made me feel ill, my parents thought it was marvellous.
Marmite was originally very cheap, it is a bi-product of Guinness, if you remember, in covid Marmite became scarce, it was because the pubs were closed. Sorry to info dump
Ooh! I didn't know any of that, it's really interesting!
This is making me want to eat it, now!
I haven’t, but I have tried Marmite cheese! It’s very ‘moreish’. Marmite crisps are also a favourite. I have tried substitutes but they aren’t the same, I weirdly don’t like Bovril. Marmite is a thing, however you may feel about it.
There are many, many Marmite products out there!
Many Marmite/Peanut and Marmite/Cheese combos.
I conclude that a lot of people really do love it.
It's ok...
On toast with some butter. As I recall, although I haven't eaten any for many years.
